About Us

  • InterVol
InterVol brings together information and advice on volunteering overseas. We believe that volunteering overseas should have positive outcomes for both volunteers and local communities. We encourage volunteers to avoid exploitation and to seek out opportunities for sustainable and appropriate development; to carefully select, research and prepare for their trip; and to travel responsibly.

If you choose to donate your time to volunteer internationally you'll probably find you get more out of it than you put in. Whether you want to improve language skills, boost your career, help save the planet or just help others, InterVol can set you on the path to achieving your goals. To get the most benefit from the site, we suggest you become a member by setting up an InterVol account, which will help you to record your progress and give you access to more detailed information.

If you are more interested in developing your staff, finding volunteers or helping your students gain work experience then there is also useful information for you.

InterVol can't make your journey for you but it can help you establish where you are, where you want to be and how best to get from one to the other. We hope you will find InterVol useful in finding your own unique direction in a world of amazing opportunities.

InterVol is a joint project of Challenges Worldwide and Timebank.

  • Challenges Worldwide
Challenges Worldwide offers three- to nine-month volunteer placements in developing countries, which match motivated individuals with the opportunity to gain new experiences, skills and knowledge while also making a lasting difference to a host community.

Volunteers can be any age from 18-65, but all are motivated by the chance to gain a new perspective along with valuable work and life experience. CWW supports them through preparation and training, monitors progress overseas and offers a debrief and support on return.

The career benefits are evident on CVs while the personal development opprtunities boost self-assurance and add to the sense of fulfilment that comes from having made a real difference to a worthwhile project overseas.

CWW carefully selects host organisations overseas to be sure that projects are sustainable and will have a positive impact on the communities involved. We encourage Volunteers to share their skills with their local counterparts and set up systems for the impact of their work to continue into the future.

Challenges Worldwide is an educational charity first registered in Scotland over five years ago. The team are committed to matching Volunteers with opportunities, building skills and changing lives on both sides.

We firmly believe that it is individual people who make the difference and this is reflected in the individual attention and support we give to each Volunteer, the ongoing relationships we have with our partners overseas, and our accreditation as an Investor in People.
